If there were ever a group that could be labelled an embarrassment to video games and the internet in general, it would be GameFAQs. Today’s winners are these fantastic posts from the cesspool of video games regarding the new Japanese trailer for Chrono Trigger on the DS
After watching the trailer on gamevideos, I’m somewhat disappointed in Squenix’s decision to change/alter some of the character’s names. Marle is now Marl, which, imo, looks a lot less feminine. Frog is now Kaeru; maybe that’s frog in Japanese, not sure. However, I hope it’s not his real name, because when you first meet him he regrets some of his past actions, making ‘Frog’, and not a real name, appropriate.
Lastly, the name change that REALLY upsets me is Ayla to Eira. I’m 99% positive that the name Ayla is reference/easter egg to Ayla from the Clan of the Cave Bear series. It is a perfect example of localization done right, and I am appalled they are changing her name.
Are you guys as upset as me, don’t care, or prefer more Japanese sounding names?
Yes, because the Japanese trailer for a Japanese release should have the names just as you remember them in English.
Wow so the trailer showed a new character named Kaeru that was cool. He looks like he might be Frog’s brother or son. I hope he doesn’t replace Frog though that would suck. They left Magus out of the trailer too though so maybe Frog is still in.

Yes, that is how you do a proper port of a classic game. They are going to go and change the story and dialog to make it his son or brother. That makes complete sense.
